About the project NADAL at the Fondation Vasarely on WMMNA

The project NADAL is an attempt to develop a game of bouncing balls and trajectories which runs in loop through the space. This circuit is activated by 4 tennis ball machines, each of them functions as checkpoints for the balls and they are calibrated in order to shape a relay form. The calibration is also developed with a site specific concern, in order to produce some bouncing interactions and a vigorous circulation in the environment where it is integrated.
At the Fondation Vasarely, the circuit is based on a symmetrical pattern of trajectories and it produces a circulation all around the central column of the hexagonal shaped room. I use the several grounds/sides of the space - walls, ceiling and ground - to enable a physical activation and a confrontation with the architectural scale.
The process of calibration for this project usually looks like some kind of 3D pool game: a mashup of calculation, geometrical intuitions and empirical compromises.

Le projet NADAL est une tentative de développer une circulation en boucle dans l'espace alimentée par un jeu de rebonds et de trajectoires de balles de tennis. Le circuit est activé par 4 machines lance balles, chacune d'entre elles fonctionne comme un point de relance, formant ainsi un relais. L'emplacement et le paramétrage de ces machines sont déterminés en relation avec l'espace intégré, afin de produire une circulation vigoureuse en interraction avec l'environnement architectural.
A la fondation Vasarely, la configuration du circuit s'articule autour de la colonne centrale d'une salle hexagonale. Les différents plans de l'espace (sol, murs...)
sont utilisés de manière à générer une activation physique et une confrontation à l'échelle architecturale.
Le procéder de parmétrage prend la forme d'une partie de billard en 3D: un mélange de calculs, d'intuitions géométriques et de compromis empiriques.
